Thunderbolt

Photos and notes from our climb in August 2003.

Thunderbolt (left) and North Palisade (right) from Columbine Peak. Thunderbolt Pass is at the left, and the route is just to the right of that in the shade.

Same thing, but zoomed in a bit.

Kelly about to attempt the summit block of Thunderbolt. It took a while to get the rope in the right position over the top. Also note that there's a bolt near the top, with slings attached, but they are hanging off the back side.

Notice that I actually have two belays because I didn't want to go swinging off to the right if I slipped.

Once it was led, the yellow sling was placed around the top, and the existing slings were draped down the appropriate side. Jeff (and the others) used them to batman their way up.

Jeff later climbed it a second time. This time I think he avoided the slings and was able to climb this feature. Well done!
